Vertical Scaling

Vertical Scaling

In the following standard cases, \(a>1\). Replacing \(y\) controls a vertical scale; replacing \(x\) controls a horizontal scale.

Scale factor \(1/a\) parallel to the \(y\)-axis

\(y=\mathrm{f}(x)\)

\(y=\dfrac{\mathrm{f}(x)}{a}\)

Scale factor \(a\) parallel to the \(y\)-axis

\(y=\mathrm{f}(x)\)

\(y/a=\mathrm{f}(x)\iff y=a\mathrm{f}(x)\)
