\(\sin(A\pm B)=\sin A\cos B\pm\cos A\sin B\)
\(\cos(A\pm B)=\cos A\cos B\mp\sin A\sin B\)
\(\tan(A\pm B)=\dfrac{\tan A\pm\tan B}{1\mp\tan A\tan B}\)
Read upper signs together and lower signs together. The tangent formula requires all displayed terms to be defined and the denominator to be nonzero.
Exact values
| Split the angle | Working |
|---|---|
| \(105^\circ=60^\circ+45^\circ\) | |
| \(75^\circ=45^\circ+30^\circ\) |
For given ratios, use the quadrants to find the signs of any missing ratios before substitution.
In general, \(\sin(A+B)\ne\sin A+\sin B\).
