Solving for Dimensions of a Rectangle Using Simultaneous Equations

Solving for Dimensions of a Rectangle Using Simultaneous Equations

Secondary 2

In the diagram, \(ABCD\) is a rectangle. Given that \(AB=\left( 2x+y \right)\)cm, \(BC=\left( x+y \right)\)cm, \(CD=\left( 3x+5y+3 \right)\)cm and \(AD=\left( 4x+5y-7 \right)\)cm.

  1. Form two equations involving \(x\) and \(y\).
  2. Find the values of \(x\) and \(y\).
  3. Calculate the area of rectangle \(ABCD\).
