7 marks

A chemist has a \(20\%\) acid solution and a \(50\%\) acid solution (percentages by volume).

  1. Form and solve a pair of simultaneous equations to find how many litres of each solution must be mixed to make \(30\) litres of a \(30\%\) acid solution.[3]
  2. Explain why no mixture of these two solutions can be a \(60\%\) acid solution.[2]
  3. Find the volume of water that must be added to the \(30\) litres of \(30\%\) solution to make a \(25\%\) solution.[2]
