Stock in two warehouses

Stock in two warehouses

Secondary 2
TGM Original Questions

Warehouse A initially holds \(18\) more crates than twice the number in Warehouse B. After \(10\) crates are dispatched from each warehouse, Warehouse A holds four times as many crates as Warehouse B. Let \(x\) and \(y\) be the original numbers of crates in Warehouses A and B respectively.

  1. Using the initial stock information, form an equation in \(x\) and \(y\).
  2. Using the information after the dispatch, form another equation in \(x\) and \(y\).
  3. Solve the equations obtained in (a) and (b) to find the original stock in each warehouse.
  4. Hence, find the original total number of crates.
