Similar Triangles \(𝐴𝐡𝐢\) and \(𝐴𝐸𝐷\): Finding Angle and Side Length

Similar Triangles \(𝐴𝐡𝐢\) and \(𝐴𝐸𝐷\): Finding Angle and Side Length

Secondary 2

Triangles \(ABC\) and \(AED\) in the diagram above are similar.

Find

  1. \(a\),
  2. \(x\).

Source check: the diagram gives \(AD=2.1\), \(DE=2.4\), \(AE=2.8\) cm and \(\angle ADE=107^\circ\). The cosine rule applied to those three sides instead gives \(\angle ADE\approx76.6^\circ\). The printed data are inconsistent. The answers \(a=36^\circ\) and \(x=4.55\) cm are the formal results from the stated angle correspondence and length proportions, respectively; they do not describe one triangle satisfying every given.

Answer:\(\text{(a)}\ a=36^\circ\) \(\text{(b)}\ x=4.55\text{ cm}\) Results are conditional as explained in the source check; the complete printed givens are inconsistent.
