TGM Original Questions

Jason is planning a trip to different places starting from Singapore with a total budget of \(\$12\ 000\) (Singapore Dollars, SGD), and he needs to exchange currencies before leaving for a new place. Below are the exchange rates between \(1\) unit of Singapore Dollar (SGD) and other currencies.

  1. Express the ratio of \(1\) unit of USD to HKD in the form of \(1:x\) by finding the value of \(x\). Correct your answer to \(2\) decimal places.
  2. Express the ratio of \(1\) unit of HKD to JPY in the form of \(1:y\) by finding the value of \(y\). Correct your answer to \(2\) decimal places.

Assume that during Jason’s trip, the ratios between currencies do not change and that Jason exchanges all his remaining budget whenever he leaves for the next destination. Jason follows a route of ‘Singapore – New York – Hong Kong – Tokyo – Singapore’.

  1. Given that Jason spends USD \(3880\) in New York, HKD \(20\ 492\) in Hong Kong, using your answers in (i) and (ii), find the amount of JPY Jason exchanges for.
  2. Given that Jason exchanges all his JPY for SGD \(700\) before he returns to Singapore, find the amount of JPY Jason spent in Tokyo.
