From values to a curve
Check the stated interval and calculate each value before plotting. Read the number represented by a major grid interval on each axis; the two axes need not use the same numerical scale.
| \(x\) | -2 | -1 | 0 | 1 | 2 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| \(y\) | 4 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 4 |
For \(y=x^2\), join the plotted points with a smooth curve. Do not join them with straight segments or extend beyond the stated interval. Check the turning point and any crossings of the axes.
A graph estimate has limited accuracy. State a sensible value supported by the grid rather than all the digits from a calculator.
