A shop takes \(15\%\) off the marked price and then charges \(9\%\) GST on the discounted price. The marked price is \(\$P\).

  1. Write down an expression for the amount paid.[1]
  2. A customer says that GST should be added first and the discount taken afterwards. Show that this gives the same amount.[1]
  3. The shop also accepts a \(\$10\) voucher. Compare the amount paid when the voucher is deducted before GST is added with the amount paid when it is deducted after GST is added. Show that the difference is the same for every marked price.[3]
  4. State which method is better for the customer.[1]
