Midpoint Theorem

Midpoint Theorem

In \(\triangle ACD\), \(B\) and \(E\) are the midpoints of \(AC\) and \(AD\).

\(BE\parallel CD\qquad BE=\dfrac12CD\)

Proof

The smaller triangle is similar to the whole triangle with scale factor 1 : 2.

Equivalent labelling

If \(M,N\) are the midpoints of \(AB,AC\), then \(MN\parallel BC\) and \(MN=\frac12BC\).
