TGM Original Questions

Let \(L_1\) be the line \(y=-2x+5\).

  1. State the coordinates where \(L_1\) meets the coordinate axes.
  2. On the grid provided below, using a scale of 1 cm to represent 1 unit on both axes, draw and label the graph of \(L_1\) for \(-2\leq x\leq4\).
  3. On the same axes, draw and label the graph of \(L_2:y=\frac12x-2\) for \(-2\leq x\leq4\).
  4. Hence, use the graphs to estimate the coordinates of the point of intersection of \(L_1\) and \(L_2\), giving each coordinate correct to 1 decimal place.
  5. Verify your answer to (d) by solving the pair of simultaneous equations algebraically.
