Linear Graphs and Graphical Solution of Simultaneous Equations

Linear Graphs and Graphical Solution of Simultaneous Equations

Secondary 2
\(x\)\(0\)\(2\)\(4\)
\(y\)\(-5\)\(-1\)\(p\)

The table above shows the values of \(y=2x-5\).

  1. Calculate the value of \(p\).
  2. Using a scale of \(2\) cm to represent \(1\) unit on both axes, draw axes for values of \(x\) from
\(0\) to \(4\) and for values of \(y\) from \(-6\) to \(3\). On your axes, draw the graph of \(y=2x-5\)
    for \(0\le x\le 4\).
  3. From the graph, find the value of \(x\) when \(y=1\).
\(x\)\(0\)\(1\)\(2\)
\(y\)\(0\)\(-3\)\(q\)

The table above shows the values of \(y+3x=0\).

  1. Calculate the value of \(q\).
  2. On the same axes, draw the graph of \(y+3x=0\) for \(0\le x\le 2\).
  3. From the graph, find the solution to the simultaneous equations \(y=2x-5\) and
    \(y+3x=0\).
