A print shop offers two price plans for printing \(n\) pages.

  • Plan A: a fixed charge of \(\$12\) plus \(15\) cents per page.
  • Plan B: \(24\) cents per page, with no fixed charge.
  1. Write down, in dollars, the cost of printing \(n\) pages under each plan.[2]
  2. Form and solve an inequality to find the least number of pages for which Plan A is cheaper than Plan B.[3]
  3. A teacher needs \(30\) copies of a \(4\)-page worksheet. Which plan should she choose, and how much does she save? Check that your answer agrees with part (b).[2]

Answer:(a) A: \(12+0.15n\) dollars, B: \(0.24n\) dollars (b) \(n>133\dfrac13\), least \(n=134\) (c) Plan B, saving \(1.20\) dollars (\(120<134\))
