Linear Equations and Inequalities

Secondary 3

An advertisement costs:

- \(\$12\) for up to and including \(30\) words;
- An additional \(\$0.40\) for each word beyond \(30\).

An organiser needs an advertisement of at least \(25\) words and can spend at most \(\$20\).

  1. Find every possible whole-number word count \(w\).

  2. The organiser receives a \(10\%\) discount on the entire bill. With the same budget, find the new maximum word count.

  3. A student proposes \(C=12+0.40w\) as the original cost formula for every \(w\). Explain the error and give the correct rule.

Answer:(a) \(w=25,26,\ldots,50\); (b) \(55\) words; (c) \(\$12\) up to \(30\) words, then \(12+0.40(w-30)\).
