Kinematics - Finding the Equation of Displacement from Velocity

Kinematics - Finding the Equation of Displacement from Velocity

A particle \(P\) moves in a straight line such that \(t\) seconds after starting at displacement \(+1\) metre from \(O\), its velocity, \(v\) m/s, is given by \(v = \frac{1}{2}t^3 - \frac{11}{2}t^2 + 15t\). Find

  1. \(t\) when the particle is instantaneously at rest,
  2. an expression for the displacement of the particle from \(O\).
  3. distance away from \(O\) at \(t = 1\).

Answer:(i) \(t=0,5,6\) s. (ii) \(s=\frac18t^4-\frac{11}{6}t^3+\frac{15}{2}t^2+1\). (iii) \(\frac{163}{24}\) m from \(O\).
