IP2U4 Exercise Q9

IP2U4 Exercise Q9

Mr Kang bought some mooncakes for \(\$500\).

He paid \(\$x\) for each mooncake.

  1. Find an expression, in terms of \(x\), for the number of mooncakes he bought.

It was found that 1 mooncake was crushed, and could not be sold.

Mr Kang sold each remaining mooncake for \(\$1\) more than he paid for it.

  1. Write down an expression, in terms of \(x\), for the total sum received from the sale of the mooncakes.

He made a profit of \(\$50\) from the sale of the remaining mooncakes.

  1. Write down an equation to represent this information, and show that it can be simplified to \({{x}^{2}}+51x-500=0\).
  2. Solve the equation \({{x}^{2}}+51x-500=0\), giving your answers correct to one decimal place.
  3. Find the selling price of each mooncake.
