Using Pythagoras’ Theorem to Find Ladder Length

Using Pythagoras’ Theorem to Find Ladder Length

TGM Original

In the diagram, a ladder \(AB\) leans against a vertical wall. The foot of the ladder is initially \(3.6\) m from the wall and the ladder reaches a height of \(4.8\) m. The ladder then slides \(1\) metre down the wall.

  1. Calculate the length of the ladder.
  2. Find how far the foot of the ladder has moved from its original position.
