Population with Known Variance And Not Normally Distributed

Population with Known Variance And Not Normally Distributed

A distributor for musicals claimed that the ticket sales for a particular musical hit an average of \(1220\) tickets a day, with variance \(3136\). A random sample of \(61\) days was taken and the sales, \(x\) tickets, for each day were recorded. It was found that

\(\sum(x-1100)=6608\)

  1. State, with a reason, whether it is necessary to assume that the ticket sales follow a normal distribution in order to test his claim at \(10\%\) significance level.
  2. Test at \(10\%\) significance level whether the distributor was overstating his claim.
