A curve \(C\) has equation \(3xy+1=(x+y)^2\).

  1. Show that \(\displaystyle \frac{\mathrm{d}y}{\mathrm{d}x}=\frac{2x-y}{x-2y}\).[2]
  2. Hence find the exact \(x\)-coordinate of the points on \(C\) whose tangent is parallel to the \(x\)-axis.[3]
  3. By finding the gradient of the tangent to \(C\) at \((0,1)\), hence find the acute angle between the tangent to \(C\) at \((0,1)\) and the \(x\)-axis.[2]

Answer:(a) \(\frac{\mathrm{d}y}{\mathrm{d}x}=\frac{2x-y}{x-2y}\) (b) \(x=\pm\frac1{\sqrt3}\) (c) \(\tan^{-1}\frac12\approx26.6^\circ\)
