Kinematics - Interpreting and Sketching Motion Graphs

Secondary 3

The diagram below shows the speed-time graph of a car.

The distance covered by the car is \(1480\) m.

Speed-time graph showing speed in m/s against time in s. The speed increases from \(0\) to \(40\) in \(14\) seconds, remains constant at \(40\) until \(34\) seconds, and then decreases to \(0\).
Speed-time graph showing speed in m/s against time in s. The speed increases from \(0\) to \(40\) in \(14\) seconds, remains constant at \(40\) until \(34\) seconds, and then decreases to \(0\).
  1. Find the length of time it takes to cover the entire distance.
  2. The car moved with a constant acceleration for the first \(14\) seconds.

    Find the acceleration.
  3. On the diagram in the answer space below, sketch the acceleration-time graph of the car for the whole journey.
Acceleration-time graph template with Acceleration (m/s\(^2\)) on the y-axis and Time (s) on the x-axis, with vertical dashed lines at \(14\) and \(34\) seconds.
