Kinematics - Interpreting and Sketching Motion Graphs

Secondary 3

The diagram below shows the distance-time graph for the journey of a vehicle from point \(A\) to point \(B\) and its journey back to \(A\) during a period of \(3\frac12\) hours.

Distance-time graph of a vehicle's journey
Distance-time graph of a vehicle's journey
  1. Find the distance the vehicle had travelled by \(0945\).
  2. Give a brief description of what was happening to the vehicle between \(0930\) and \(1000\).
  3. Calculate the speed that the vehicle must travel during the last part of its journey in order to return to its starting point by \(1230\).
  4. What is the average speed, in km/h, of the vehicle for the whole journey if it returns to the starting point by \(1230\)?
  5. What is the acceleration at \(1100\)?
  6. A second vehicle leaves \(B\) for \(A\) at \(1000\).
It travelled at a constant speed of \(80\) km/h.
By adding a straight line on the graph, state an estimate of the time at which the two vehicles first met, giving your answer to the nearest minute.
