Order of operations and calculator checks

Secondary 1
TGM Original — E Math Summary Notes (4052), 2026 editorial manuscript

Calculate brackets first, then powers and roots, then multiplication and division from left to right, then addition and subtraction from left to right. A fraction bar groups its entire numerator and denominator.

Example

\(\begin{aligned}18\div3\times2-4^2&=6\times2-16\\&=-4\end{aligned}\)

To evaluate \(\dfrac{7.2-1.8}{0.3^2+0.06}\), enter \((7.2-1.8)\div(0.3^2+0.06)\). The numerator is \(5.4\), the denominator \(0.15\), and the result \(36\).

Check signs, brackets and the size of the answer. Keep the stored result or full display for the next calculation; round only the final answer unless a question instructs otherwise.
