Follow the accuracy requested. Unless another accuracy is specified, the examination convention for non-exact numerical answers is \(3\) significant figures, or \(1\) decimal place for angles in degrees. Preserve exact answers when appropriate.
Example
A calculation gives \(12.7468\ldots\text{ cm}\), reported as \(12.7\text{ cm}\) to \(3\) significant figures. An angle \(38.672\ldots{}^\circ\) becomes \(38.7^\circ\).
If asked to show a result correct to a stated accuracy, show a more accurate value before rounding. For practical counts, use the context: \(83\) people in vehicles holding \(12\) each need \(7\) vehicles, because \(6\) carry only \(72\).
