Matrices

• A matrix is a rectangular array of number arranged in rows and columns.

Special Matrices

• A row matrix is a matrix with only one row.

Example: \(\begin{pmatrix} 3 & -1 & 9 \end{pmatrix}\) and \(\begin{pmatrix} 2 & -3 & -18 & 20 \end{pmatrix}\)

• A column matrix is a matrix with only a single column.

Example: \(\begin{pmatrix} 2 \\ 3 \\ 4 \end{pmatrix}\) and \(\begin{pmatrix} 2 \\ -5 \end{pmatrix}\)

• A square matrix is a matrix with equal number of rows and columns.

Example: \(\begin{pmatrix} 2 & 3 \\ 4 & 5 \end{pmatrix}\), \(2\times 2\) matrix

• A null or zero matrix is a matrix with all its elements being zero.

Example: \((0)\), \(\begin{pmatrix} 0 \\ 0 \end{pmatrix}\) and \(\begin{pmatrix} 0 & 0 \\ 0 & 0 \end{pmatrix}\).
