Profit and Loss

Secondary 1

A store buys goods from manufacturer at cost price, a customer in turn buys the good from the store at selling price.
The store makes a profit when the selling price is more than the cost price and a loss when the selling price is less than the cost price.

Profit \({= \mathrm{selling \ price} - \mathrm{cost \ price}}\)

Loss \({= \mathrm{cost \ price} - \mathrm{selling \ price}}\)

Profit as Percentage of cost price \({= \frac{\mathrm{Profit}}{\mathrm{Cost \ Price}} \times 100\%}\)

Loss as Percentage of the cost price \({= \frac{\mathrm{Loss}}{\mathrm{Cost \ Price}} \times 100\%}\)
