Polygons

Polygons

Secondary 1

A polygon is a closed plane figure (2-dimensional) with three or more straight sides.

Types of Polygons

Simple Polygon is a polygon that does not intersect itself and has no holes. There are two types of simple polygons, namely the convex polygon and concave polygon.

• Convex Polygon - all its interior angles are less than \(180^\circ\)

• Concave Polygon - has at least one interior angle greater than \(180^\circ\)

• Regular Polygon is a polygon with all equal sides and all equal interior angles.

The interior-angle formula \((n-2)180^\circ\) used in this course applies to simple polygons. For the positive exterior-angle formula \(360^\circ\), use a convex polygon and one exterior angle at each vertex in a consistent direction. Regular polygons here are simple and convex.
