The base \(a\) must be nonzero for zero and negative indices. In a reciprocal quotient law, both bases \(a,b\) must be nonzero.
With the definition of zero and negative indices,
\({{a}^{0}}=1\) and \({{a}^{-n}}=\frac{1}{{{a}^{n}}}\)
we can now extend all the 5 laws of indices to include all integer indices. (positive, zero and negative)
