Displacement of a particle from a velocity with reciprocal-linear and exponential terms

Displacement of a particle from a velocity with reciprocal-linear and exponential terms

IB Year 6 | Grade 12
5 marks

A particle moves in a straight line. At time \(t\) seconds, its displacement from a fixed point \(B\) on the line is \(s\) metres and its velocity is \(v\text{ m s}^{-1}\), where \(v=\frac{6}{3t+2}-e^{-2t}\) for \(t\geq0\).

  1. Find \(\displaystyle\int\left(\frac{6}{3t+2}-e^{-2t}\right)\mathrm{d}t\).[2]
  2. When \(t=0\), the particle is \(\frac12\) metre from \(B\), on the positive side of \(B\).
Find \(s\) in terms of \(t\).[3]
