Direct and Inverse Proportion

IP 2

Ten experienced workers can complete a job in \(12\) days. A trainee works at \(60\%\) of an experienced worker’s rate. Everyone works the same hours per day.
A new team contains \(6\) experienced workers and \(n\) trainees.

  1. Find the minimum integer \(n\) needed to complete the job within \(15\) days.

  2. Using this minimum team, find the actual completion time.

  3. Experienced workers earn \(\$120\) per day and trainees \(\$70\) per day. Wages are prorated for partial days. Compare the new team’s total wage cost with that of the original team. Ignore all other costs.

Answer:(a) \(4\) trainees; (b) \(\frac{100}{7}\) days; (c) New cost \(\frac{100000}{7}\approx\$14,285.71\), saving about \(\$114.29\).
