Conversion of Distance-Time Graph to Speed-Time Graph

Conversion of Distance-Time Graph to Speed-Time Graph

Secondary 3

The diagram below shows the distance-time graph for the first \(18\) seconds of a journey.

  1. Find the average speed during the first \(8\) seconds.
  2. Find the speed in the last \(4\) seconds.
  3. Find the acceleration when \(t=16\) seconds.
  4. The speed increases uniformly from \(2\mathrm{ m }{{\mathrm{s}}^{-1}}\) when \(t=0\)s, to \(t=8\)s.
Sketch the speed time graph for the journey from \(t=0\)s to \(t=18\)s.

Answer:(a) \(5\text{ m/s}\). (b) \(15\text{ m/s}\). (c) \(0\text{ m/s}^2\). (d) Speed graph from \((0,2)\) to \((8,8)\), then \(v=0\) for \(8\le t\le14\), then \(v=15\) for \(14\le t\le18\).
