TGM Original Questions

Bag A contains three cards labelled 1, 4 and 7. Bag B contains two cards labelled 2 and 5. One card is selected uniformly at random from each bag, independently. An outcome is the ordered pair (A label, B label).

  1. List all possible ordered outcomes.[1]
  2. Find the probability that the sum of the labels is 9 and the probability that their product is 20. State which event is more likely.[2]
  3. The possible sums are 3, 6, 9 and 12. A pupil says that each sum has probability one quarter because there are four sums. Explain why this is incorrect.[1]
