Areas and slopes on a velocity graph

Areas and slopes on a velocity graph

7 marks
TGM Original
The velocity–time graph of a particle consists of straight segments joining (0,0), (2,4), (4,4) and (6,-4), with time in seconds and velocity in m,s-1. Find its acceleration on each open segment, its displacement change and its total distance. State what can be said about acceleration at the two corners.

Answer:Accelerations \(2,0,-4\ \mathrm{m\,s^{-2}}\) on the successive open segments. Displacement change \(12\) m; distance \(16\) m. Acceleration is not defined by a two-sided derivative at \(t=2,4\) s.
