Area of a Trapezium with Perpendicular Height Given

Area of a Trapezium with Perpendicular Height Given

Secondary 1

In the trapezium \(ABCD\), \(AB//DC\), \(AD\) is perpendicular to \(DC\), \(AB=14\) cm, \(BC=18\) cm, \(CD=26\) cm and \(AD=15\) cm.

Find the area of trapezium \(ABCD\).

Source inconsistency: the two parallel sides and perpendicular height imply \(BC=\sqrt{(26-14)^2+15^2}=3\sqrt{41}\text{ cm}\), not 18 cm. Calculate the intended area using the stated bases and height, but these measurements cannot all hold simultaneously.

Answer:\(300\text{ cm}^2\) using the stated bases and height; the \(BC=18\text{ cm}\) label is inconsistent.
