Differentiation - Tangents and Normals at a Point

Differentiation - Tangents and Normals at a Point

TGM Original Questions

The diagram shows the curve \(y = \frac{2x + 4}{x - 1}\), which crosses the \(x\)-axis at \(P\) and the \(y\)-axis at \(S\).

The normal to the curve at \(P\) meets the \(y\)-axis at \(Q\). \(R\) is the point where the normal meets the curve again.

  1. Find the length of \(QS\).
  2. Find the coordinates of \(R\).
