Differentiation - Connected Rates of Change

TGM Original Questions

The equation of a curve is given by \(xy = 23x - 8\). A particle moves along the curve such that the \(x\)-coordinate of the particle increases at a constant rate of \(0.03\) unit/s, find

  1. the rate of change of the \(y\)-coordinate of the particle when \(y = 21\), and
  2. the possible \(x\)-coordinate(s) of the particle at the instant(s) when the \(y\)-coordinate is increasing at a rate of \(0.01\) units/s.
