TGM Original Questions

A proposed straight ramp has vertical rise 85 cm and horizontal run 650 cm. The design specification requires the gradient to be no greater than \(0.125\). All lengths refer to the actual ramp, not a scale drawing.

  1. Calculate the proposed gradient, correct to 3 significant figures, and decide whether it meets the specification.[2]
  2. Find the minimum horizontal run for a ramp with the same rise that meets the specification.[2]
  3. The available horizontal space is 675 cm. Determine the greatest rise that can meet the specification in this space.[2]
