Binomial Mean and Variance

Binomial Mean and Variance

TGM Original
For X (n,p), X counts successes in the n trials of a binomial model, with success probability p. E(X)=np. Var(X)=np(1-p). SD(X)=sqrt(np(1-p)). The mean is the long-run average number of successes, so it need not be an integer. Standard deviation describes the spread of the count; take the square root of the variance when it is requested.
