The experimental population of fruit flies increases according to the law of exponential growth such that the number, \(N\), of fruit flies after \(t\) days is given by

\(N=N_0\mathrm{e}^{kt}\).

\(N_0\) is the initial population of fruit flies. \(N_0\) and \(k\) are positive constants. After \(4\) days, it is observed that the population of fruit flies has doubled.

  1. Find the exact value of \(k\).[3]
  2. Suggest one practical reason why the model \(N=N_0\mathrm{e}^{kt}\) may not accurately predict the population of fruit flies for very large values of \(t\).[1]
