An orienteering course has three checkpoints, \(A,B,C\), on level ground.

The bearing of \(B\) from \(A\) is \(072^\circ\) and the bearing of \(C\) from \(B\) is \(145^\circ\).

\(AB=1.8\text{ km}\) and \(BC=2.5\text{ km}\).

  1. Find the distance \(AC\).[3]
  2. Find the bearing of \(C\) from \(A\).[2]
  3. Find the shortest distance from \(B\) to \(AC\).[2]
  4. A boy walks along the path \(AC\). He stops at a point that is closest to \(B\) and releases a signal flare that rises vertically.
