Coordinate Geometry - Gradient of a Straight Line

Coordinate Geometry - Gradient of a Straight Line

Solutions to this question by accurate drawing will not be accepted.
In the diagram, \(ABCD\) is a trapezium where \(AB\) and \(CD\) are parallel to the \(x\)-axis and \(AD\) is parallel to the \(y\)-axis. \(B\) is the point \(\left( 8,-4 \right)\) and \(C\) is the point \(\left( 0,4 \right)\). The line \(BC\) cuts the \(x\)-axis at \(Q\).

  1. Find the gradient of the line \(BC\).
  2. Hence, write down the equation of the line \(BC\).
  3. Find the coordinates of \(Q\).
  4. Given that the area of the trapezium \(ABCD\) is \(56\) square units, find the coordinates of the point \(D\).
  5. Hence, write down the equation of the line \(AD\).
