TGM Original Questions

A solid display consists of a right circular cone fixed on top of a cuboid. The cone has radius 12 cm, vertical height 36 cm and slant height \(12\sqrt{10}\)cm. The cuboid measures 36 cm by 26 cm by 6 cm. The cone’s circular base is entirely in contact with the cuboid and is not exposed. Resin has density \(0.8\text{ g/cm}^3\) and costs $2.40 per kilogram. Sealant costs $0.40 per \(100\text{ cm}^2\) of exposed surface, including the bottom of the cuboid.

  1. Calculate the total volume of resin required.[1]
  2. Calculate the total cost of resin and sealant.[3]
  3. Suggest a selling price and justify it using your calculated material cost.[1]
